Another review of Kyla’s gig at the Lousiana

Kyla performing at the Lousiana

The Guardian has posted it’s own review of Kyla’s gig at the Lousiana, Bristol:

Kyla La Grange is a 24-year-old singer from Watford who has been tipped for big things in 2012, but she’s still in the very early moments of her career and not established enough yet to have other people set up the stage for her. In a delicate black lace dress and black tights, and with no shoes on her feet – you wouldn’t mistake her for a roadie – she pads around after the support act have cleared up, plugging in guitars and adjusting the mic downwards as her four-man band busy themselves in the background. Kyla’s first gig of the year: The Louisiana, Bristol

Kyla performing at The Louisiana, Bristol

Kyla performed at The Louisiana, Bristol on January 11, 2012. Goan Dogs and Worship opened the night and the overall experienced seemed to be a good one. The entirety of the concert was filmed by Channel 4, as well.

The first review comes from the Lyle & Scott blog:

Kyla La Grange, our first female act of the series was, in a word, outstanding. Recently racking up column inches across music and fashion media, Kyla is the perfect package. At times her voice and presence on stage was mesmerizing; seamlessly moving from upbeat and lively to more thought provoking, moody tracks Kyla’s voice is impressive and distinctive. With slight nods to the sound of Kate Bush and Florence Welch, the set was purposeful and original- it certainly made me pop to iTunes and purchase her available singles. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more from Kyla La Grange in the very near future.

Next, is a review by The Fly:

Headlining is Cambridge philosophy grad and Kyla La Grange, one of the now common breed of hotly tipped stars who have not yet penned an album. Backed by an extremely TV friendly band (posturing indie boys), the singer/songwriter seems intent on staring resolutely over our heads into the middle distance. La Grange’s sound flits somewhere between Stevie Nicks, Florence and Emily Jane White, with epic ballads like‘Heavy Stone’ and the more folk tinged ‘Been Better’ and ‘Vampire Smile’. While her voice is excellent, it doesn’t have enough weight behind it to fully carry her songs live, and this leaves the whole package feeling a little hollow. La Grange is talented, but perhaps needs some more gigging experience before her shows are as ambitious as her music.
